Kazan's cafe and bar scene is concentrated on and around Bauman Street and the streets running east from it toward Profsoyuznaya. Coffee culture has caught up with Moscow and St Petersburg — there are several good single-origin specialty cafes in the centre. Tea, served Tatar-style with sugar, lemon, and chak-chak on the side, is the more local choice.
Nightlife is moderate by Russian-city standards but lively enough on weekends. The cluster on Profsoyuznaya Street has the most bars within walking distance; the Old Tatar Quarter is much quieter at night. Last orders are usually around midnight; a handful of clubs run until dawn on Friday and Saturday.
