Bauman Street

Bauman Street is Kazan's main pedestrian boulevard, running roughly a kilometre from the foot of the Kremlin south to Tukay Square. Cobbled, traffic-free, and lined with 19th-century merchant houses, restored Soviet-era buildings, fountains, and statues, it is the city's main daytime promenade.

Along the way are the Epiphany Cathedral with its 75-metre bell tower (the tallest in the city), the National Bank of Tatarstan in pseudo-Russian style, several cafes worth stopping at, and the bronze cat at the southern end, a popular photograph. The whole length can be walked in twenty minutes, but most visitors take an hour or two with stops for coffee.
