Kronstadt is reached from St Petersburg most easily by marshrutka (minibus) — take marshrutka 510 from Prospekt Veteranov metro station or 405 from Chornaya Rechka metro station. The journey takes about an hour and the buses run across the dam. A regular bus service also operates.
By car, take the ring road (KAD) to the dam crossing and follow signs to Kronstadt. The whole journey from central St Petersburg is about 45 minutes by car. In summer, occasional boat trips from St Petersburg connect to the island's harbour, which is a more atmospheric arrival. There is no direct train service to Kronstadt.
