Saviour Church on Nereditsa is one of the key medieval church sites around Novgorod, famous for its pre-Mongol architecture and the memory of frescoes that were largely destroyed during the Second World War. The restored building still carries enormous weight in the story of Novgorod's sacred art.
It sits outside the densest city-centre cluster, so it works best as a targeted excursion for travelers interested in medieval Rus architecture. The reward is a quieter, more contemplative site than the busy Kremlin churches.
