The Aeolian Harp is a small neoclassical rotunda built on a rocky outcrop on the lower slopes of Mount Mashuk, overlooking the city and the steppe to the north. It is one of Pyatigorsk's most iconic structures, appearing in virtually every 19th-century image of the town, and remains the most photographed viewpoint in the city.
The terrace around the rotunda offers the best accessible panorama in Pyatigorsk without climbing Mashuk itself: the city spread below, the peaks of the Mineral Waters group in every direction, and on clear days the snow dome of Elbrus visible to the south. In the 1830s, aristocrats would come here at dawn to watch the sunrise over the steppes. It is still worth doing.
