Things to Do

Novi Beograd is not a conventional sightseeing destination — it is a place to understand how socialist Yugoslavia imagined urban life, and to experience the Belgrade that exists away from the fortress and the cobbled streets of Stari Grad. The architecture is the main attraction: vast residential blocks, monumental government buildings, and the occasional brutalist set piece that rewards anyone interested in 20th-century planning.

The riverfront is the other draw. The splavovi — floating bars and clubs moored along the Sava and Danube — are the heart of Belgrade's legendary nightlife and most of them cluster along the Novi Beograd bank. During summer evenings the promenade between them is one of the liveliest stretches in the city.
