Planned New Belgrade municipality of broad socialist boulevards, riverfront promenades, and floating Sava nightlife.
Novi Beograd (New Belgrade) is the modern municipality across the Sava river from Belgrade's old centre. Built largely from the late 1940s onward as a planned socialist city, it is a grid of broad boulevards and monumental residential blocks that has been transformed in recent decades by commercial development — shopping malls, office towers, and the Arena, Belgrade's largest concert and sports venue.
The riverfront along the Sava and Danube has become one of the liveliest areas in the city. The splavovi — floating bars and clubs moored along the riverbanks — are the heart of Belgrade's legendary nightlife scene. Walking along the river promenades, particularly at sunset, is one of the better free experiences in the city.

Bars and Cafes
Novi Beograd's bar scene is dominated by the splavovi — the floating clubs and bars moored along the Sava and Danube riverbanks. These are the main event, particularly in summer, and they range from relaxed afternoon drinking spots to full-on nightclubs that run until sunrise. Most visitors to Belgrade's nightlife end up here eventually, even if they start in Stari Grad.
Away from the splavovi, the commercial areas around the Arena and Ušće shopping centre have the usual selection of cafe-bars that Serbian cities do well: good coffee, cheap beer, and long opening hours. These are neighbourhood haunts rather than destinations in themselves.
