Mali Grad

Castle hill above Kamnik's old town, with a Romanesque chapel and alpine views.

Mali Grad, the "Little Castle", is Kamnik's landmark hill. The castle complex that once stood here has mostly disappeared, but the two-storey Romanesque chapel survives, and the short climb gives the best immediate view over the old town roofs.

It is the right first stop in Kamnik: close to the centre, quick to reach, and good at explaining the town's setting. On a clear day the Kamnik-Savinja Alps fill the northern horizon.
