Ljubljanica Riverfront

The embankments on both sides of the Ljubljanica — Cankarjevo nabrežje on the left bank, Petkovškovo nabrežje on the right — are lined with outdoor cafe terraces that are the preferred gathering place of Ljubljana in warm weather. From April to October, the stretch between the Triple Bridge and the Dragon Bridge is almost continuously occupied by people eating and drinking at tables overhanging the water.

The riverfront was redesigned by Plečnik and opened up to pedestrian access in stages through the twentieth century. It is one of the most pleasant urban rivers in Central Europe — clean enough to have ducks and occasional herons, and genuinely integrated into the social life of the city. Walking from the Triple Bridge to the Dragon Bridge and back on both banks, crossing on the Butchers' Bridge, takes about 20 minutes.
