Dominican Monastery

The 13th-century Dominican monastery sits at the edge of the old town and is one of the best-preserved medieval monastic complexes in Slovenia. The cloister garden is pleasantly calm, and the monastery church contains fragments of Gothic frescoes. The building now partly houses the Ptuj Town Theatre — an unusual combination that actually works rather well.

The monastery is visible from the main square and from the castle above, and the walk along the old town walls from here toward the riverbank is one of Ptuj's quieter pleasures.
