Almería's cathedral is one of the stranger and more memorable churches in Andalucía. From the outside it looks severe, almost military, with heavy walls and towers that speak of a coast that once lived with the fear of attack from the sea.
Inside, the mood changes: chapels, choir stalls, and a calm nave soften the fortress exterior. It is worth seeing after the Alcazaba because together they explain the city better than either sight alone.
