Walls of Arcos

The walls of Arcos survive in fragments rather than as a neat circuit, but they are important to how the town reads. The old defences work with the natural ridge, turning the cliff edge into part of the architecture.

Look for the walls as you move through the old town rather than as a single destination. They make most sense in glimpses: stone, drop, lane, and view all at once.

A story
The surviving walls are fragments of a larger defensive system that used the ridge itself as a weapon. In Arcos, the cliff was always part of the fortification.
