The Sierra de Huma is the main mountain massif of the Guadalteba comarca, rising to about 1050 metres and offering panoramic views across the reservoir system, the Teba plains, and on clear days the snowy peaks of the Sierra Nevada far to the east. Its slopes are covered with holm oak and wild rosemary, and golden eagles and griffon vultures nest on the limestone crags.
Several marked walking routes ascend from the village of Ardales, including a circular route of about 12 km that takes in the summit hermitage of the Virgen de Huma, a pilgrimage site that draws processions from the surrounding villages in May. The terrain is rough in places, and proper walking shoes are needed. The views from the top justify every step.
