Torre del Loro

The Torre del Loro (sometimes called Torre del Oro) is a ruined 16th-century watchtower on the cliffs east of Mazagón, one of a chain built along the Andalucian coast to warn of attacks by Barbary corsairs from North Africa. Most of the upper tower has collapsed but the lower walls still stand, with views down the coast in both directions.

A short walk through the pines from the parador or along the clifftop path brings you to it. There is no signage and nothing to do beyond looking — but the setting on the edge of the dunes, with the Atlantic stretching away, is striking, particularly at sunset.
