Dinópolis

Dinópolis is a palaeontology theme park and museum on the outskirts of Teruel, built around the province's remarkable dinosaur heritage. Teruel is one of Europe's most productive regions for Mesozoic fossil finds — the Jurassic and Cretaceous beds of the surrounding area have yielded dozens of species, including several found nowhere else. The museum component is genuinely scientific and well presented.

The park combines interactive exhibitions with reconstructions, fossil displays, and a research programme. It is aimed partly at families with children but the palaeontology content is serious enough to engage adults. There are satellite installations at several other sites around the province, but the main Teruel site covers the essentials. Allow three to four hours. Entry has a charge.

A story
Teruel province has yielded some of the most important dinosaur finds in Europe. The turiasaurus riodevensis — discovered near Riodeva in 2003 — is among the largest dinosaurs ever found anywhere on earth, with an estimated weight of 40-50 tonnes. Casts and reconstructions of it anchor the Dinópolis collection.
