El Salvador is generally considered the finest of Teruel's four UNESCO Mudéjar towers. Its proportions are exceptional, and the coverage of geometric brick patterning and glazed ceramic tile inlays is the most complete of any tower in the city. The tower spans the main street at its base, and looking up at it from below in the narrow lane gives a sense of the scale that is missing from photographs.
Unlike most of Teruel's towers, El Salvador can be entered and climbed. The internal staircase between the outer and inner shells gives access to the belfry, and the views across the city's rooftops and the Turia valley are worth the climb. The ticket also covers access to the Cathedral tower.
