Avilés is connected to Oviedo (25 km) and Gijón (30 km) by frequent buses and the FEVE narrow-gauge railway. The nearest international airport is Asturias Airport (Aeropuerto de Asturias), about 12 kilometres west of the city, with flights to Madrid, Barcelona, and some European destinations. By road, the A-66 (Via de la Plata) connects south to Oviedo and beyond; the A-8 coastal motorway links east to Gijón and Oviedo. The city centre is compact; parking is available near the old town perimeter.
