Cala Conta

Cala Conta — also known as Cala Compteta — is a cluster of small coves about 12 km from San Antonio, set among rocky headlands with a chain of tiny offshore islets that give the whole place an otherworldly quality. The water is exceptionally clear, the colour shifting from pale turquoise close to shore to deep blue further out, and the sunsets from this coast are among the finest in Ibiza.

There are actually three coves here, divided by rocky outcrops, each with slightly different character. The main beach has a simple restaurant and sunbed operation; the smaller coves to the north are more sheltered and quieter. Snorkelling around the rocks and over the seagrass meadows is excellent — you will see octopus, sea bream, and occasional larger fish. In peak July and August the car park fills by 10am; arriving by water taxi from San Antonio avoids the parking ordeal.

A story
The small islets of Es Bosc and S'Illa des Bosc just offshore from Cala Conta are reachable by paddling or swimming at low tide. Local teenagers have done this for generations. The larger islet has a rocky point that serves as the best viewpoint in the western part of the island.
