Fornells

Menorcan fishing village on a sheltered bay known for watersports and caldereta de llagosta.

Fornells is a small fishing village on the Bay of Fornells on the north coast of Menorca. The bay is large, sheltered, and almost landlocked — perfect conditions for windsurfing and kayaking, and the reason Fornells has become a hub for water sports. The village itself is pretty, with whitewashed houses lining a waterfront that fills with yachts and pleasure craft in summer.

The local speciality is caldereta de llagosta, a Menorcan lobster stew that draws visitors from across the island. Several restaurants along the harbour serve it, and the freshness of the ingredients — lobsters from the bay — sets it apart. It is an expensive treat but one that Fornells does better than anywhere else on the island.
