Things to Do

Fornells is about the water and the food, in roughly that order. The Bay of Fornells is one of the best sailing and windsurfing bays in the Mediterranean — it is large, consistently breezy, and protected from the open sea, which makes it manageable for beginners while still interesting for experienced sailors. Several water sports schools operate from the village, offering rental kit and instruction. Kayaking the shallower reaches of the bay, particularly toward the northern end where the water turns turquoise over the seagrass, is worth a half-day.

On land, the village rewards a slow walk. The whitewashed waterfront is compact enough to cover in an hour, and the castle ruin above town — Torre de Fornells, a British-built watchtower from the 18th century — offers a commanding view of the bay's entrance. A short drive south brings you to the clifftop at Cap de Cavalleria, the northernmost point of Menorca, with a lighthouse and dramatic views over the sea.
