A ruined Moorish hilltop castle in the municipality of Ferreries, about 15 kilometres south of Fornells. The approach follows a well-preserved Roman road through pine forest; the walk from the car park at Santa Cecília farmstead takes around an hour each way. The ruins at the top are skeletal but the views justify the effort.
Castle of Santa Àgueda
A story
Santa Àgueda was the last Moorish stronghold on Menorca, holding out against Aragonese forces until 1287 — the final year of the island's Islamic period. The castle itself is ruined, but the Roman-era road that climbs to it — paved with flat stones still in place after nearly two millennia — is one of the most atmospheric walks on the island. The summit is Menorca's third-highest point and commands views from coast to coast on a clear day.
