Guernika is small but the Basque seriousness about food applies. Several traditional sociedades gastronomicas open their doors to visitors at weekends, and the area around Foru Plaza has a good run of pintxo bars. The Monday market is the place to assemble a picnic — Idiazabal cheese, txakoli wine, and the famous green Gernika peppers when in season (July to October).
