Montaña Amarilla

Montaña Amarilla (Yellow Mountain) is a volcanic cone at the southern tip of La Graciosa, about 2km from Caleta de Sebo. It is one of the most distinctive geological features on the island, with an unusual yellow-orange colour caused by mineral oxidation. The walk to the summit takes 20-30 minutes from the base and rewards with panoramic views: north across the island, south over the strait to Lanzarote's cliffs, and west out into the open Atlantic.

At the base of the cone, on the sea side, is a small saltwater cave accessible at lower tides. The round trip from Caleta de Sebo, including a stop at the summit, takes about 2-3 hours on foot. This is one of the better short walks on the island.

A story
Montaña Amarilla gets its name from the sulphur deposits and yellow-orange tuff that make up its distinctive cone — volcanic rock that oxidised over thousands of years into vivid ochre. The cave at its base was carved by wave action and floods at high tide: locals call it the "tunnel" and it runs clean through to the sea on the far side.
