Montaña Bermeja

Red volcanic cone above Playa de las Conchas with wide views over La Graciosa and the Chinijo islets

Montaña Bermeja rises behind Playa de las Conchas on La Graciosa's north coast, adding a short, sharp viewpoint to one of the island's most dramatic beaches. The red volcanic cone is not the island's highest point, but it has the right position: turquoise water below, Montaña Clara offshore, and the low tracks of La Graciosa spread behind you.

Most visitors reach it by bike from Caleta de Sebo, then walk up from the beach side. The climb is brief but exposed, with little shade and plenty of wind, so take water and do it before the day is at its hottest. Swimming at Playa de las Conchas can be dangerous because of currents; the mountain is the safer reward.
