Parque del Drago

Botanical garden protecting Tenerife's famous ancient dragon tree.

Parque del Drago is the reason most people know Icod de los Vinos. Its great dragon tree is officially estimated at around 800 years old, more than 16 metres high, and thick enough at the base to feel almost architectural. It is one of Tenerife's clearest natural symbols.

The small botanical garden around it protects the tree and shows off Canarian endemic plants such as cardon and tabaiba. You can see the tree from the nearby square without entering, but the garden gives a better sense of its scale and lets you slow down instead of treating it as a roadside photograph.
