Ávila is a compact medieval city with a clear hierarchy of must-sees: the walls, the cathedral, the Convent of Santa Teresa, and the Monastery of Santo Tomás are the four essential stops, and all are within easy walking distance of each other. The city is small enough to do thoroughly in a day and a half, though staying overnight allows you to experience the walls and streets in the quiet of the evening when the day-trippers have left.
