Ciudad Rodrigo rewards slow exploration. The walled old town is compact enough to cover on foot in a morning, but interesting enough to keep you occupied all day if you stop and look properly. The Cathedral and the old walls are the main draws, but the real pleasure is the backstreets and squares, which feel genuinely lived-in rather than polished for tourists.
