Palencia eats well for a city of its size. The local produce is straightforwardly Castilian: lechazo (milk-fed roast lamb), roast suckling pig, river crayfish from the Carrión, and the lentils of the Tierra de Campos. Calle Mayor and the streets around it have the best concentration of restaurants and tapas bars — the menu del día at lunchtime (usually around €10–12) is the best-value way to eat. Evenings in Spain begin late; most restaurants don't fill up until 10pm.
