The southern slopes of the Sierra de Gredos around Pedro Bernardo offer hiking through oak woodland, granite outcrops, and open ridge lines with long views south across the Tiétar valley towards Extremadura. The trails here are much quieter than those on the sierra's northern side, which draws the bulk of visitors heading for the Laguna Grande and the high peaks around Almanzor (2592 m).
A well-marked circuit from the village takes about three hours and passes through a mix of scrubland and forest before climbing to a viewpoint overlooking the valley. Spring and autumn are ideal; summer is hot in the lower sections but pleasant on the higher ground. The terrain is rough in places so proper footwear is worth wearing.
