The Tiétar valley stretches south of Pedro Bernardo in a broad band of olive groves, vineyards, and tobacco fields between the sierra foothills and the mountains of Extremadura. The valley enjoys a notably mild climate — sheltered from north winds by the Gredos range — that allows the cultivation of subtropical fruits unusual this far north in Spain, including figs, pomegranates, and apricots.
The villages along the valley floor, connected by a quiet secondary road, are worth exploring by car or bicycle: Lanzahíta, Mijares, and Casavieja each have their own character and share the same vernacular stone architecture as Pedro Bernardo. The river Tiétar itself is accessible in places for fishing and swimming. Views back up to the ridge of the sierra from the valley floor show the full drama of the landscape.
