Ponferrada's bar scene clusters around the old quarter and the streets near the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. The bars here follow the Spanish pattern: open from morning for coffee and pastries, filling up again at noon for vermouth and tapas, and coming back to life from around 9pm onwards. A glass of local Mencía at a street table is one of the better free pleasures the Camino offers.
