Soria sits at 1,050 metres above sea level on the high Castilian meseta, which means cold winters and hot, dry summers. Spring (April–June) and early autumn (September–October) are the best times to visit — temperatures are comfortable for walking, the landscape is green, and the city is not crowded.
July and August are warm but manageable; the altitude keeps summer temperatures cooler than the Spanish lowlands. Winter is genuinely cold, with snow not uncommon, and some smaller attractions may have reduced hours. The city's main fiesta, honouring its patron saint San Saturio, falls on 2 October and involves processions, music, and the traditional preparation of a local sweetmeat.
Mushroom season, typically October and November, draws enthusiasts from across the region. The forests around the city yield boletus, chanterelles, and other fungi that appear prominently on local menus.
