Campo Grande is the central park of Valladolid — a leafy triangular green space at the southern edge of the historic centre, with a small pond, fountains, walking paths, and a population of peacocks, pheasants, and red squirrels that wander between the flowerbeds. It dates from the 18th century and is the obvious place to escape the summer heat.
The park is bordered on three sides by grand 19th-century avenues. The Plaza de Zorrilla at its northern apex, with its statue of the romantic poet José Zorrilla, is one of the city's main meeting points. Walk through the park on the way between the station and the old centre — it adds five minutes and a great deal of pleasure.
