Things to Do

Valladolid's old centre is compact and walkable, packed into the bend of the Pisuerga river. The Plaza Mayor sits at the heart, and most of the sights are within ten minutes' walk: the unfinished Renaissance cathedral, the Isabelline Gothic facade of the Colegio de San Gregorio, the Casa de Cervantes, and the splendid sculpture museum. The city has a strong sculpture tradition — wooden polychrome figures by Gregorio Fernández and Juan de Juni are everywhere — and that art comes alive during Semana Santa, when the same statues are paraded through the streets.
