Church of San Ginés

San Ginés is one of Guadalajara's older surviving churches, with origins in the medieval period though much of what stands today dates from later rebuilding campaigns. It sits in the lower part of the old town, slightly removed from the cluster of Mendoza-era buildings near the palace. The interior contains interesting decorative work including Mudéjar elements that reflect the mixed cultural heritage of the city before the Reconquista.

The church is less visited than the cathedral or Santiago, which means you are often alone in it. This is the kind of quiet, slightly overlooked building that rewards a few minutes of unhurried looking.
