Castle of Palazuelos

Palazuelos is a tiny walled village west of Sigüenza, and its castle gives a good taste of the defensive landscape that once surrounded the town. The walls still enclose much of the settlement, making the place feel like a fortified pocket of Castile left behind by the main road.

The castle dates from the 13th to 15th centuries and passed through several noble owners. It is best seen with a car, ideally as a short loop from Sigüenza rather than a stand-alone trip. The reward is not a polished attraction but the atmosphere: stone walls, open country, and very few other visitors.
