Monument to the Battle of Talavera

North of the city, the Monument to the Battle of Talavera commemorates the 1809 Peninsular War battle in which British, Spanish and French forces fought across the surrounding ground. It is not a spectacular sight, but it gives historical context to the open country around Talavera.

Visit only if you have a car or a particular interest in Napoleonic history. For most travellers, the monument is a short add-on rather than a main event, but it helps explain why Talavera's name appears in military histories far beyond Spain.
