Iron Bridge

The Iron Bridge, officially the Queen Sofia Bridge, crosses the Tagus just south of the old centre. Opened in 1908, it brought a modern industrial silhouette to a city better known for ceramics and medieval walls.

Its red metal spans are especially handsome from the riverside paths, where you can see the bridge, the water and the old city together. It is a good reminder that Talavera's history did not stop in the Middle Ages; the river kept shaping the city well into the modern period.
