El Celler de Can Roca

Three-Michelin-star restaurant and former World's Best Restaurant, run by three brothers

One of the most celebrated restaurants in the world, holding three Michelin stars and named World's Best Restaurant twice (2013, 2015). Run by three brothers — Joan (chef), Josep (sommelier), and Jordi (pastry chef) — in a purpose-built dining room in the Taialà neighbourhood, a short taxi ride from the old city.

The food is rooted in Catalan and Girona tradition but pushed to extraordinary lengths of technique and creativity. The wine list is similarly exceptional, Josep Roca being considered one of the finest sommeliers of his generation. Reservations are taken about eleven months in advance and go within hours of opening. The best approach: try to book the moment the reservation window opens for your preferred dates. A set tasting menu is around €230 per person without wine.

If a table is out of reach, the brothers also run La Masia, a more casual wine bar adjacent to the restaurant, where walk-ins are sometimes possible.

A story
The Roca brothers started El Celler de Can Roca next to their parents' roadside restaurant in 1986. For years it was a local secret. By 2013 it was ranked the best restaurant in the world. The brothers still live in Girona, and Joan — the head chef — is known for foraging in the markets of his childhood neighbourhood for inspiration.
