The Can Marfà Knitwear Museum traces the story of Mataró's cotton and knitwear industry, which made this stretch of the Costa del Maresme one of the most industrialised parts of Catalonia through the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The museum occupies a former industrial complex that includes the Nau Gaudí, giving it an architectural interest beyond its exhibits.
The collection covers the full arc of the industry: the arrival of mechanised looms, the cooperative movement (which commissioned Gaudí's building), the peak of production in the early twentieth century, and the eventual decline. There are working machines on display, archival photographs, and reconstructed workers' interiors.
