By ferry from Algeciras — The standard route. Acciona and Baleàlia operate frequent services from Algeciras on the Spanish mainland; the crossing takes between 35 and 75 minutes depending on the vessel (fast ferry or standard). Services run throughout the day and, on the busy summer schedule, through the night. Tickets are inexpensive and can be booked online or at the terminal. Algeciras is reachable by bus or train from Málaga, Sevilla, and Madrid.
From Morocco overland — The El Tarajal border crossing connects Ceuta to the Moroccan town of Fnideq (Castillejos), which has bus connections to Tetouan, Tangier, and beyond. Walking across the border is straightforward; expect queues during peak periods. Note that Ceuta uses the euro, while Morocco uses the dirham — neither currency works on the other side. There is a separate commercial border crossing at Biutz used mainly by freight and cross-border traders.
By air — Ceuta has no airport. The nearest is Gibraltar Airport (about an hour and a half by ferry and road), or Málaga, Sevilla, or Tangier Ibn Battouta for longer-haul connections. A helicopter service between Ceuta and Málaga operates periodically but is not a regular scheduled service.
