Monte Hacho is the rocky headland at the eastern tip of the Ceuta peninsula, rising to about 200 metres and topped by a military fortress that has been in continuous use since the Byzantine period. The fortress itself is still an active military installation and access to the interior is restricted, but the road up the hill passes the Ermita de San Antonio and offers panoramic views across the Strait of Gibraltar to mainland Spain and east along the Moroccan coast.
The walk from the city centre takes around 45 minutes on foot. The views from the summit are the best in Ceuta, particularly at sunset when the Rock of Gibraltar appears as a dark silhouette across the water.
