Iglesia de Sancti Spiritus

A 14th-century Gothic-Romanesque church on the central square

The Iglesia de Sancti Spiritus is the principal church of Melide, built in the 14th century in a transitional Romanesque-Gothic style. The exterior is plain — a single nave, a low bell tower, a south porch — but the interior holds a remarkable late-Gothic main altarpiece and a series of polychrome wooden saints that were brought down from the older Romanesque chapel of San Pedro when that was deconsecrated in the 18th century.

The church stands on the square at the heart of the old town, opposite the Casa Concello (town hall), and is on the Camino de Santiago route through Melide. Open during daylight hours; admission free.
