Leboreiro is a tiny village four kilometres east of Melide on the Camino Francés, almost entirely consisting of a single line of stone houses along the pilgrim path. It was once a major stop on the medieval Camino, with a hospital for pilgrims (now ruined) and a Romanesque church, Santa María de Leboreiro, that survives essentially unchanged.
The church's tympanum is one of the most striking pieces of Romanesque sculpture on the Galician Camino, with a carving of the Virgin Mary in a frontal hieratic style flanked by two angels swinging censers. The village itself is small enough to walk through in five minutes but represents the closest you can come on the modern Camino to a sense of what the medieval villages along the route looked like.
A short medieval stone bridge crosses the Seco River at the village edge.
