Berbés Quarter

Historic fishing quarter with fresh oysters at Pedra market

Vigo was born from the sea, around a small fishing village that gradually spread up towards the hillside. Today the Berbés quarter still preserves narrow-fronted houses and arcaded streets where fish was once sold at market. Some of the old taverns remain, along with the Pedra market — where you can eat fresh raw oysters straight from the shell, a ritual that feels as close to the Atlantic as you can get without getting wet.
