The neighbourhood west of the city centre, anchored by the Parque del Oeste and the university quarter of Moncloa. Argüelles is the traditional student neighbourhood of Madrid — Complutense University is nearby, and the streets around Calle de la Princesa fill with students and young locals. The area has a relaxed, unglamorous energy compared to Malasaña or Chueca, and is better for an afternoon beer than a late-night bar crawl.
The key draw is the green corridor along the western edge: Parque del Oeste runs from Argüelles to the Debod Temple, an authentic Egyptian temple gifted to Spain in 1968 and reassembled overlooking the Manzanares valley. The Teleférico cable car departs from the park, crossing above the Casa de Campo. Calle de Isaac Peral and Calle del Pintor Rosales have the best terrace bars, with views over the park.
