Els Ports (The Passes) Natural Park covers 35,000 hectares of limestone massif around Morella, with dramatic gorges, cliffs, and waterfalls cut by rivers draining from the high plateau. The landscape is wild and relatively remote — this is one of the least-visited natural parks in the Valencian Community, with correspondingly good wildlife. Griffon vultures are common; eagle owls nest in the cliffs; wild boar, deer, and Spanish ibex are all present.
The park has marked hiking trails ranging from gentle river walks to demanding ridge routes. The Cova dels Molts gorge near Morella is a good half-day walk. The park information centre in Morella can provide maps and trail recommendations. A car is needed to reach the trailheads beyond the town.
