Getting There

Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport (ALC) is the main gateway, about 40 kilometres north of Torrevieja — typically 35 to 45 minutes by car on the AP-7 motorway, depending on traffic. It is one of Spain's busiest regional airports, with direct flights from across northern and central Europe year-round and a very high frequency of low-cost routes in summer. Car rental at the airport is straightforward, and having a car makes a real difference in Torrevieja: the beaches are spread over 20 kilometres of coastline, the lake walking circuits start some distance from the town centre, and the surrounding Costa Blanca is worth exploring.

There is also a regular bus service operated by ALSA connecting Torrevieja to Alicante city (around an hour) and to other towns along the Costa Blanca. From Alicante bus station the connection to Torrevieja runs several times daily; from the airport, the most practical option is a taxi or a pre-booked transfer unless you are connecting via Alicante city. Murcia International Airport (RMU), about 60 kilometres to the south, is a secondary option with fewer routes but sometimes cheaper fares to Torrevieja than Alicante. The nearest train stations are in Elche and Alicante city — Torrevieja itself has no rail connection, so onward travel by bus or car is necessary from either.
