Torrevieja

Alicante coastal town backed by pink and green salt lakes beside the Costa Blanca beaches.

Torrevieja is a coastal town in the south of Alicante province, backed by two salt lakes that form a protected natural park — the pink-tinged Laguna de Torrevieja and the green Laguna de La Mata. The town has a long history as a salt-producing centre, and the lakeside walking trails offer a striking contrast to the beach-resort atmosphere of the waterfront.

The coastline runs for 20 kilometres, with six main beaches — La Mata, Cabo Cervera, Los Locos, El Cura, Los Náufragos and Ferris — interspersed with rocky coves and low cliffs. The climate is mild year-round, which has made Torrevieja popular with northern European residents and retirees alongside the summer holiday crowd.
