Borås Djurpark

Borås Djurpark is one of the largest zoos in Scandinavia — 40 hectares on the wooded northern edge of the city. It is best known for its African plains exhibit, where elephants, giraffes, zebras, and antelope share a single broad enclosure that you can view from a high boardwalk. The zoo also has a strong record on conservation, particularly for endangered Nordic species: wolves, lynx, wolverines, and brown bears.

The park is genuinely engaging for adults and not just a parent's afternoon out — the spaces given to the animals are large, the design is well thought through, and the place handles big crowds without ever feeling overrun. A morning is enough; a full day with children if you intend to use the playgrounds and the small adjoining amusement section. Open from spring through autumn; the season is shorter than European zoos farther south.
